Whether you like it, or not, he’s going to become the President of the empire. Whether you think he’s legitimate, or not, he’s going to become the President of the world. Whether you think he is being controlled by the color red, or not, he’s going to become the President of the United States of America.
He is not the problem with American democracy though. WE are the problem with American democracy. For over a decade, as I reached adulthood and became consciously aware of the issues facing our country, I warned of this. Shit, Eisenhower warned of this 56 years ago, “We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.”
Barely any American I spoke to listened, or became involved, for years. I cautioned people about the lack of healthcare, NSA spying, registering of Muslims, and predicted the presidential outcome ten months prior. I’ve been right more times than not, yet I still feel the failure still falls squarely on we. Not you. Not me. We. The People.
A couple of years ago, before the elections began, I hoped that we’d be talking about improvements to minimum wage, healthcare, criminal justice reform, and other progressive topics. Now, I’m worried that if we do not act, we’ll fall into oligarchic rule. That flag is already being planted as we speak. The train is on the move.
However, I’m glad to see that people who didn’t care before are finally waking up. Mark my words though: we must get involved NOW if we want to stop or steer this train. We can swing the pendulum back towards a path that benefits all of us, and not just some of us. It must be done now. NOW!
If we don’t elect public officials that represent the common people in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, I’m afraid Americans will lose their rights. I implore you to heed what I’m saying seriously. You don’t have to follow me, or believe that every action I’m recommending is the right one for you. I do, however, hope you consider taking action: march with your fellow citizens for your beliefs, register yourself and others to vote, show up for all the elections, elect candidates that don’t take bribes from millionaires and billionaires. Stop getting baited by titles and consume multiple sources of information: The Young Turks, Democracy Now, BBC, C-SPAN, Associated Press.
Talk to each other. Talk to another human being god damnit. PLEASE. Forget the piranha infested social networks that prey on blood. It’s an illusion. We are at a eerie moment in history. The new President lies constantly so we can’t trust him or his associates. The congress is bought and it’s hard to trust many of them. The mainstream media has lied in the past and they sensationalize everything, now it’s hard to trust them.
Right now we only have each other. Change is local, in our grocery stores and coffee shops. Talk to someone, and be nice, even if they have opposing views. LISTEN. I have friends that are Trump supporters, Hillary supporters, Bernie supporters, anarchists, socialists, communists, homeless, jobless, and disillusioned. Most of us want the same basic needs: food, water, shelter, health, and the internet. We would all know this, if we just listened.
I usually pepper my posts with jokes, but this isn’t funny. These words are coming from an immigrant that understands the value of the freedoms afforded to us Americans and I hope we are ready to fight back politically…because if we don’t…
